The College acts as the Secretariat of the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examinations Boards in Dental Specialties and is responsible for the professional conduct of the examinations on behalf of the Faculties of Dental Surgery of the:

  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
  • Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
  • Royal College of Surgeons of England
  • Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland

ISFE Oral Medicine exams

The ISFE in Oral Medicine assesses the advanced clinical knowledge and professional skills expected of specialists at the completion of their training. It includes Part A (written) and Part B (clinical and oral). Read more about each part below.

ISFE Oral Medicine Part A

The Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Oral Medicine Part A confirms your advanced knowledge in the specialty and supports your progression toward independent consultant-level practice and fellowship status.

ISFE Oral Medicine Part B

The Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Oral Medicine Part B assesses your clinical competence, communication skills, and decision-making at consultant level, confirming your readiness for independent practice and eligibility for fellowship.

Applications to the ISFE Oral Medicine

To apply for the ISFE in Oral Medicine, you must first log in or register with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. When applications open, eligible candidates can complete the application form, upload the required supporting documents, and pay the exam fee through the College’s secure examinations portal.

Required documentation includes confirmation of enrolment in a recognised UK or Irish specialty training programme in Oral Medicine and formal approval from your postgraduate training lead. Once your application is processed, you will receive confirmation and further instructions regarding your exam.


Exam locations 

You can apply to complete the ISFE in Oral Medicine through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Examination locations vary by diet and availability but are typically delivered across designated UK venues.

Part A (Written)


Delivered online with remote proctoring, allowing candidates to sit the exam from a suitable location of their choice, subject to meeting technical and environmental requirements.

Part B (Clinical/Structured Oral Assessment)


Held in person at approved centres in the UK. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow supports delivery at selected venues depending on candidate demand and logistical arrangements.

Your Diploma

Following your successful completion of the ISFE in Oral Medicine, you will be awarded your Diploma and become eligible for fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Once you have passed both Part A and Part B of the ISFE, your Diploma will be issued and posted to you.

You will also be invited to celebrate your achievement and formal admission as a Fellow at one of our Diploma Ceremonies, held multiple times each year at our College in Glasgow.
