Welcome to the College
Diploma ceremonies are a time to be remembered. Led by the College President and attended by your new colleagues, family and friends, it’s the perfect time to recognise your accomplishments and admission to the College.
If you’ve successfully passed an exam, such as the MRCP(UK), with us, you’re eligible to become a Member of the College.
What happens at a Diploma Ceremony
All ceremonies take place in College Hall.
When you arrive, you should register with our team. They’ll direct you to where you can collect your robe. Professional photos will also be available at this time or after the ceremony.
Following an academic procession featuring the President and other Officer Bearers, you’ll be called upon to receive your certificate of attendance. Once the ceremony has finished, you and your guests will be invited to join the President for a drinks reception.

Pre-Diploma Ceremony Dinner
In addition to the Diploma ceremony, we are delighted to invite you to join us on the night before your diploma ceremony for an experience that blends history, elegance, and culinary delight in one of Glasgow's most prestigious venues. Reservations are required, as there is limited availability and early booking is essential. The Pre-Ceremony Dinner and the Ceremony must be booked separately, information on how to book the Pre-Ceremony Dinner can also be found on each Ceremony booking page.
Frequently asked questions
Unfortunately, due to limited capacity, we can only allow you to bring two guests. However, we stream all our ceremonies on our YouTube channel where people can celebrate your day with you remotely. Recordings will also be available to buy shortly after each ceremony.
We recognise that Diploma Ceremony days are a time of celebration for the whole family. However, as the ceremonies themselves are formal evening events, we advise that they are not suitable for children under seven-years-old.
If it is not possible to make childcare arrangements, children are welcome to watch a livestream video of the ceremony in a relaxed space in the College. Please note: children must be accompanied by an adult guest at all times.
Babies under the age of two do not require a ticket.
All our Diploma Ceremonies are held in our very own College Hall. If you’ve never been to the College building before, you can find directions here. The address is: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, 232–242 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, G2 5RJ.
Our gown hire and official photography are handled by a third party. We’ll email you details on how to book gowns, which gowns to book and how to order photography once you have completed registration.
Your College Fellowship or Membership must be full and current at both the times of registration and the time of the ceremony to be included. There are some exceptions to this, including MRCP(UK) candidates, or various awards winners, who don’t have to hold College Membership to attend. You can email the team to find out if you're eligible.
This means that we are at capacity for this event and cannot accept any new registrations. You can email the team to be added to the waitlist or to be notified if alternative dates become available.
The College must be notified of cancellations in writing, or by email to ceremony@rcpsg.ac.uk. Cancellation notices received within 6 weeks or more prior to the date of the event, will be refunded in full.
Cancellation notices received between 14 days and 6 weeks prior to the date of the course will be subject to 50% payment. Cancellation notices received within 14 days of the date of the event will be subject to full payment.
