Overview
Part A of the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Restorative Dentistry is a written assessment that evaluates your knowledge of complex restorative procedures, diagnosis, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary case management. It confirms the depth of understanding required to progress toward consultant-level practice in restorative dentistry.
The College acts as the Secretariat of the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examinations Boards in Dental Specialties and is responsible for the professional conduct of the examinations on behalf of the Faculties of Dental Surgery of the:
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
- Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
- Royal College of Surgeons of England
- Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland

Diploma of Fellowship
Award of the Diploma of Fellowship in a specific specialty indicates that a candidate has attained the knowledge and experience, as well as satisfied the necessary training programme requirements, to proceed to independent practice as a consultant within their specialty.
Successful candidates affiliate to one of the partner Colleges once they have met all requirements: information on affiliation is available from each of the partner Colleges.

To sit Part A of the ISFE in Restorative Dentistry, you must:
- Be currently enrolled in a recognised UK or Irish specialty training programme in Restorative Dentistry, approved by the General Dental Council (GDC) or the Dental Council of Ireland
- Have completed a minimum of two and a half years of full-time equivalent specialty training by the time of the examination
- Obtain formal approval from your postgraduate dental dean or training programme director
- Submit all required documentation and meet the application deadlines set by the Intercollegiate Board

Provide your personal details and confirm your eligibility for Part A. - Upload supporting documents
Submit all required documentation, including confirmation of enrolment in a recognised UK or Irish specialty training programme in Restorative Dentistry. - Pay the exam fee
Secure your place by submitting payment through the online portal. - Receive confirmation
Once your application is processed and approved, you’ll receive a confirmation email with exam details and joining instructions.
