Overview

This half-day online course aims to develop participants’ understanding of current thinking on learning in the workplace and focuses directly on the nature and distinctive characteristics of the clinical learning environment.

Drawing on relevant theoretical perspectives on situated and active learning, it will ask participants to reflect on their own experiences as learners and/or trainers. It will then enable them to identify ways in which the learning environment can be enhanced to maximize the positive outcomes of each learning experience for all those involved and will contribute to their continuing professional development as trainers.

Who is this course for?

The course is designed for clinicians – beyond foundation training – who are particularly involved in clinical teaching and promoting and enhancing clinical learning.

What’s covered

The course involves four hours of online learning. Initially, you’ll undertake 2.5 hours of individual online learning on the College’s digital learning platform. You’ll have access to this one week prior to the 1.5-hour small-group interactive session which concludes the course: a choice of morning and afternoon sessions will be available.

During these highly interactive sessions, you’ll be able to share reflections on your own experience of different clinical learning environments and discuss how these relate to the course material.

  • Part one: 2.5 hours of online modules to be completed prior to the live session
  • Part two: 1.5-hour small group interactive session

The full programme for the Clinical Learning Environment can be found at the bottom of this page.
