Part B of the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Orthodontics is a structured clinical and oral assessment that evaluates your ability to apply advanced orthodontic knowledge, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making in consultant-level scenarios. It confirms your readiness for independent practice and eligibility for fellowship.
The College acts as the Secretariat of the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examinations Boards in Dental Specialties and is responsible for the professional conduct of the examinations on behalf of the Faculties of Dental Surgery of the:
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
- Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
- Royal College of Surgeons of England
- Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland

Diploma of Fellowship
Award of the Diploma of Fellowship in a specific specialty indicates that a candidate has attained the knowledge and experience, as well as satisfied the necessary training programme requirements, to proceed to independent practice as a consultant within their specialty.
Successful candidates affiliate to one of the partner Colleges once they have met all requirements: information on affiliation is available from each of the partner Colleges.

To sit Part B of the ISFE in Orthodontics, you must:
- Have successfully passed Part A of the ISFE in Orthodontics
- Be enrolled in a recognised UK or Irish specialty training programme in Orthodontics, approved by the General Dental Council (GDC) or the Dental Council of Ireland
- Have completed the appropriate amount of full-time equivalent specialty training, as outlined in the current examination regulations
- Obtain formal approval from your postgraduate dental dean or training programme director
- Submit all required documentation and meet the application deadlines set by the Intercollegiate Board

Enter your details and confirm your eligibility, including successful completion of ISFE Part A. - Upload supporting documents
Provide all required documentation, including confirmation of satisfactory training progress and any additional materials specified for Part B. - Pay the exam fee
Secure your place by submitting payment through the online portal. - Receive confirmation
Once your application is approved, you will receive a confirmation email with joining instructions and exam information.
