Overview

Part A of the Intercollegiate Specialty fellowship Examination in Dental Public Health is a written assessment that evaluates your understanding of population-level oral health, evidence-based practice, health promotion, and public health policy. It is designed to confirm the knowledge required to progress toward consultant-level practice in the specialty.

The College acts as the Secretariat of the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examinations Boards in Dental Specialties and is responsible for the professional conduct of the examinations on behalf of the Faculties of Dental Surgery of the:

  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
  • Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
  • Royal College of Surgeons of England
  • Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland

Diploma of Fellowship

Award of the Diploma of Fellowship in a specific specialty indicates that a candidate has attained the knowledge and experience, as well as satisfied the necessary training programme requirements, to proceed to independent practice as a consultant within their specialty.

Successful candidates affiliate to one of the partner Colleges once they have met all requirements: information on affiliation is available from each of the partner Colleges.

To sit the ISFE in Dental Public Health, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a UK or Irish specialty training programme in Dental Public Health approved by the General Dental Council (GDC) or the Dental Council of Ireland.
  • Have completed a minimum of two and a half years of specialty training by the time of the examination.
  • Obtain the necessary approval from your postgraduate dental dean or regional training authority.
  • Provide any required supporting documentation and meet deadlines as set by the Intercollegiate Board.
  1. Applications for the ISFE Dental Public Health exam is managed centrally via the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
  2. When applications open, eligible candidates can submit an application form, supporting documents, and pay the exam fee through the College's examinations portal.
  3. Spaces are limited and allocated according to eligibility and capacity, early submission is strongly advised.
