Overview
The MRCP(UK) Part 1 is the entry-level exam open to doctors with a primary medical qualification and a minimum 12 months' postgraduate experience in medical employment.
It assesses your understanding of the scientific and clinical knowledge that underpins the practice of medicine and tests your ability to apply this knowledge in clinical scenarios relevant to everyday patient care.
The examination is computer-based, administered by Surpass at a test centre internationally or online via a proctoring service in the UK and consists of two three-hour papers, each containing 100 multiple-choice questions. It covers a broad range of topics, including cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology and respiratory medicine, to ensure the level of knowledge is appropriate to physicians at the beginning of postgraduate training.
Success in this examination demonstrates your readiness to progress in postgraduate training and is an essential milestone towards achieving full MRCP(UK) status.
